Blogging Tips

I've been blogging for just over a year now, and although I'm by no means an expert, I've picked up a few tips here and there, and I wanted to share them for anyone who's just starting out.

Use twitter frequently. Twitter is amazing for keeping your followers up to date with posts, giving them an easy way to reach you, and connecting with the blogging community. Twitter is also a great way for new people to discover you.

Get involved in the community. Follow as many bloggers as you can on twitter, and retweet, favourite and reply to their tweets (obviously not too often). By doing this, you'll make blogging friends, which means you're more likely to meet new people, and feeling part of a community is really good.

Have a regular posting day. Most people who regularly read by blog know that I upload on a Wednesday and a Sunday, so on those days my blog views tend to be higher. Having some structure to your posting will help any readers to know when to check your blog, and when to get ready to read a new post.

Add pictures to every post. This is a tip I've recently discovered. Big chunks of writing look quite boring to read if you don't have at least one picture in the post. Pictures speak a thousand words, and having the right images attached to your writing will help to draw in readers.

Make sure readers know what they're getting. Some people like to use fancy titles for posts, e.g. whilst someone might call a post ' MAC lipstick review', someone else might go for 'My new favourite lipstick!'. Whilst the second one is a lot more interesting, someone who's looking to buy the lipstick you've blogged about is going to have a harder time finding your review. Make sure readers can easily see what the post is about, because people tend to be lazy and won't want to go through every post to find out if they want to read it.

Do you have any blogging tips?
