Feminism

What is feminism?

When I first joined Tumblr, I started to see posts about feminism. I'd always thought of feminists as scary old ladies with pitch forks who wanted to take over the world, but I soon realised that that couldn't be further from the truth. A feminist is someone who believes that men and women deserve equal rights. Everyone's a feminist. Or at least you should be.

Why is feminism important?

Throwback to when women weren't allowed to vote, work, and just got given a husband that they had to obey for the rest of their life. When you think about it like that, we've come a long way. But women are still far from equal. Some women get paid less than men for doing exactly the same job. Some women are refused jobs simply because they are women. Some women are taught from birth that anything they do that isn't 'ladylike' is bad, but men can do whatever they want because 'boys will be boys'. Feminism is one of the most talked about topics in the world right now, and it needs to stay that way until women are allowed to do exactly what they want.

Why am I a feminist?

Apart from the obvious reason that everyone should consider themselves a feminist, I've never really had a 'life changing' moment where I've become determined to join the fight for women's rights. However, all my life I've picked up on little things people say. "Don't sit like that, it's not ladylike. Don't wear that, boys won't like it. Don't buy that, it's from the mens section." Have you ever noticed how girls in schools aren't allowed to wear things that are too revealing because it might distract boys? Have you ever noticed how girls clothes are made to be more see-through than boys? It annoys me. And it's not fair. Feminism means equality, and everyone deserves equality.

Everyone should be a feminist.

Are you?

Nars Luminous Weightless Foundation // Review

Hello.

A few weeks ago, for some unknown reason, I decided that I was getting a bit bored of my Vichy Dermablend foundation, and ventured into town to pick up a new foundation to try. After reading loads of good reviews and successfully convincing my Mum to let me have it, I had my eye on the Nars Luminous Weightless Foundation. Worst £32 I ever spent.

This foundation is absolutely terrible, and for the price I paid, I'm very annoyed. Who pays £32 for a foundation?!

This product is far too watery, and gives you absolutely no coverage. It would be a lot cheaper to just rub some water into your face; you'd probably get the same results. Even with a good primer (shoutout to Maybelline Baby Skin Primer), it moved around on my face so much that by the end of the day I had about 3 patches of foundation on my face.

I would recommend this to absolutely nobody, and I'm really disappointed.

How to Survive Shopping Days

Hello.

In preparation for Summer, I've been doing some shopping for new clothes, and I can't be the only one who gets stressed about shopping. Here's some tips on how to have a fun day shopping instead of getting stressed and going home empty handed.

Go Early
The shops (Primark especially) get really busy around lunchtime, so I'd recommend going early. You'll get the best things before they're bought by someone else, the shops will be quieter, and you'll get back earlier in the day because let's be honest, who wants to be shopping still at 5pm?

Know What You're Looking For
Walking into a shop with no idea what you're looking to find can leave you searching the rails for absolutely ages. Go into each shop with a clear idea of what kind of things you're looking for and you'll find that you won't spend half as long in each shop.

Take Breaks
After searching in a few busy shops, it's always nice to sit down and have a drink. I love having a little break half way through, as you can relax a little bit and also look over what you've already got so you know what you still need.

Don't Go With a Big Group of People
More people means more shops and more people to please. Going with a smaller group means you have more choice of shops and you get things done quicker.

Make Sure You Have Enough Time
Nobody gets anything done under pressure. Make sure you devote a whole day to your shopping so you don't have to worry about the time and you can make the most of the trip

Do you enjoy shopping?

March Favourites // 2015

Hello.

Firstly, I want to apologise (again) for the lack of posts over the past few weeks. I've had a bad few weeks with stress from school, but it's now the Easter holidays which means no school and lots of blogging to do!

Since it's now April, I wanted to show you all a few things I've been loving throughout this month.

Nivea Lip Balm
I have a real thing for lip balms, and can't stand my lips feeling dry. After using EOS religiously for 9 months before deciding I hated them, I went on the hunt for a new lip balm, and I won't be purchasing anything else any time soon. I really like that it's in a pot, so I don't get different lipsticks all over it, and it's so moisturising. It stays on for ages and it smells amazing as well. For the price it is, I'd definitely recommend it.

Sam Smith
Only this month have I started to appreciate the angel that is Sam Smith. His voice is absolutely incredible, and he seems like such a lovely person. I'm downloading his album as I write this, and I can't wait to hear the rest of his music after falling in love with 'Lay Me Down', 'Like I Can' and 'I Know I'm Not The Only One'.

Bloodstream - Ed Sheeran
Even though I tell people I'm a huge Ed Sheeran fan, I never actually get round to listening to his music. But when I heard him perform 'Bloodstream' at the Brit Awards, I was in awe at how talented he is. This has been one of my favourite songs this month, and I'm really starting to get into his music a lot more because of it.

Real Techniques Buffing Brush
I recently switched from using an expert face brush to a buffing brush for foundation (you can see a post I did on it here), and I honestly love the buffing brush. It applies everything so evenly and you don't get many makeup lines than you do if you use an expert face brush.

What have you been loving this month?
